NTU CAC Piano Ensemble’s annual Tickling the Ivories (TTI) concert was held on 19 January 2024. Tickling The Ivories has always been a valuable platform within ensemble since the COVID pandemic, for our ensemble’s pianists to perform for other members, as well as interested NTU students and staff. Since the relaxation of Covid-19 restrictions, we have made TTI ticketed and open to the public in addition to NTU students and staff, which allowed us to garner higher audience turnout and sales. Following the success of TTI in AY2022-23, PE would like to hold TTI for AY2023-24 in a similar format at NTU Nanyang Auditorium Our pianists have played a wide range of genres of music, from the good old classical pieces to popular pop and anime tunes, and jazz, giving them valuable performance opportunities in preparation for our annual Flagship concert, Eleganza, and to provide them with a platform to showcase their works and artistic expression. Tickling The Ivories also aims to promote creativity within our ensemble. For 2024, Tickling The Ivories also aims to provide an avenue for members and audiences to relax and enjoy at the start of the year and semester (January 2024), before ramping up their studying frequency and intensity. Making their transition into the new semester and year a much smoother and relaxing one.
Winter Recital 2023 is an informal, internal concert held at the end of the semester 1 after the finals to mark the end of the calendar year. It aims to provide members a platform to perform in a slightly less formal, stress-free, and yet intimate environment. Members are encouraged to play pieces consisting of different styles and genres, including but not limited to solo, 4 hands, 6-hands, anime, pop, classical, etc. Winter Recital 2023 also aims to provide an avenue for club members to bond together through music and performances at the end of the calendar year. Thus, promoting student life and building an inclusive club culture.
NTU CAC Piano Ensemble and Project Gift of Song proudly present to you "Solace Fundraising Concert" in support of our beneficiary, Ambulance Wish Singapore (AWS). «Solace», which means to give comfort or consolation in a time of distress or sadness, is more than just a concert. It is a heartfelt journey of support for Ambulance Wish Singapore (AWS) as a result of the collaborative effort between NTU Piano Ensemble (NTUPE) and Project Gift of Song (PGoS). Together, we share a vision of creating a world where compassion knows no bounds, and where every individual facing terminal illness can find solace in their hearts. We strongly believe that music possesses a unique and profound ability to offer solace to the human soul, and spark conversations. Thus, Solace 2023 is programmed with a 3-theme approach - "Strength", "Hope", and "Comfort". Performances corresponding to each theme were featured. 1) “Strength” - Embodies the resilience and inner fortitude that all of us possess. 2) “Hope” - Uplifting and encouraging tunes with the ability to spark hope. 3) “Comfort” - A gentle embrace to soothe one’s hearts. Additionally, we are honored to have the support of many esteemed performers from all walks of lives who have generously lent their talents. They include Ayden Sng (MediaCorp Artiste), Wufang Singapore, Tallin Ang, NTU Chinese Orchestra, Re:String Guitar Ensemble, and many more. Early conversations on end-of-life matters have become all the more imperative, with Singapore about to become superaged in the next three years. Yet, it is still shrouded in much taboo and stigma today. Mindfully interspersed between the performances are therefore thought-provoking questions on life and mortality, as well as personal experiences of youth volunteers and performers on the dignity that music brings. We humbly believe that Solace 2023 will empower our youth to take a first stride towards catalyzing a paradigm shift: providing a safe space for people to be vulnerable about personal preferences on end of life, and reframing societal perceptions of death as a universal celebration of life.
Rekindle 2023, also known as Inter-Varsity Concert, is a concert where pianists from NTU Piano Ensemble, SMU Ivory Keys, and NUS Piano Ensemble come together to perform. The objective of the Rekindle 2023 is to give NTU Piano Ensemble’s pianists a platform to perform to an audience of substantial size. With a large audience, pianists are expected to demonstrate playing skills of a high standard. Hence, pianists would be encouraged to develop professional musicianship and playing techniques. Additionally, Rekindle 2023 provided an adequate platform for our members to mingle with pianists from other universities, fostering warm relations with our sister clubs from other universities as well as set a solid foundation on which future, larger scale collaborations with our sister clubs can be built on.
NTU CAC Piano Ensemble Eleganza was held at Esplanade Recital Studio, on 27 February 2023. Eleganza is the annual flagship event of NTU CAC Piano Ensemble. It features the best pianists of the Ensemble playing challenging repertoires which they practice tirelessly over months, specifically concert items featuring 4 hands piano pieces. This year’s performance is of particular significance to NTUPE, as it is our 20th Anniversary. To celebrate this special occasion, NTUPE has collaborated with a diverse range of music clubs, originating from both within and outside NTU, premiering a piece composed by one of our main committee members. The purpose of this event is to provide members with a platform to express their skills and creativity, and to celebrate the hard work that our members have put in over the past academic year. Due to the COVID-19 situation of previous years, there had been significant audience capacity restriction on-site for the past few years. Hence, this concert marks the first time Eleganza was allowed to be held at maximum capacity of 222 audiences (full house). This is down from the listed capacity of 245, due to Fire Safety Restrictions. With the held of NTU CAC Media and IT (MIT), as well as CAC Concert Engineers (CE), this performance was recorded, after which it will be subsequently published on YouTube for the general public to view, as part of CAC PE’s continuous publicity & outreach efforts. This year is also the first where the Eleganza showcased thrilling violin performances by our sponsor, Belcanto Violins. Despite it being the first time working with Belcanto Violins to feature their talents, Eleganza was a success due to the hard work placed by NTUPE main committee members. Additionally, we have also invited musicians from NTU CAC Chinese Orchestra, SIT Chinese Orchestra, and SMU Symphonia to join us for our concert this year for a piano quartet performance to provide our audience with a good variety of genres to enjoy. This also provides our performers the opportunity to perform with musicians from other Singapore Universities, thus strengthening our inter-University bonds.
